VE Day Celebrations 2020. With the country in lockdown and social distancing part of everyday life, the 75th anniversary of VE Day became a cause for national celebration. Nowhere more so than at the end of my driveway.
We soaked up the sun while relaxing in our front gardens, with Union Flags fluttering, the spirit of carnival was in the air. Music echoed from all directions the road joined together in drinking and eating, socializing on mass for the first time since the start of lockdown. There was a strong sense of community, of coming together after the isolation fo the past two months. It shows that unlike in the films, when there is a global disaster society doesn’t disintegrate into dystopia, if anything we become more united.
