Lockdown got me going crazy. Ever see the film Ground hog day? Well I don’t know about you, but I can’t tell my Sunday from my Thursday at the moment. I couldn’t tell you how long we’ve been in lockdown, I find myself working until there is no light coming in from outside, then starting again when it reappears. Time no longer has the same meaning or relevance it used to. It is as if we have travelled back to a pre-industrialised era.
All this and it’s having an effect on my activities. While trying to fill the time between working, I have tried several new things, one of which is baking.
Lockdown got me going crazy
Yes, I tried baking and it went as well as you might imagine. I found a recipe on YouTube for a cake to cook in the microwave. Couldn’t be simpler, just mix the ingredients below in a single bowl, and nuke for 5 minutes. Cake done.
- 220 gr All Purpose Flour (1 1/2 cups)
- 85 gr Unsweetened Cocoa Powder (2/3 cup)
- 150 gr Sugar (3/4 cup) – 3 tsp Baking Powder
- 130 gr melted butter
- 550 gr Warm Water (1 3/4 + 2 tbsp)
It was without doubt, one of the worst cakes I have ever eaten. Stodgy, tasteless and dense. It was like a gelatinous brown brick. You can tell from the photograph above, the lack of cake-like fluffiness was remarkable.
I highly recommend that if you decide to bake a cake, bake it. Also find a proper recipe. This one’s crap.
